I am a bit of a bus geek, and a train geek, infact an all-round 100% geek, so I was excited to visit the National Railway Museum's recent event, The Great Gathering.
We all know The Mallard, and to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its world speed record the NRM has brought all of the 6 remaining A4 locomotives together, including ones from Canada and the US!
It's amazing to think they were all built in Yorkshire too, in Doncaster between 1935 and 1938 a total of 35 A4's were built, what an achievement!
It was brilliant to see them all, and see they joy and excitement it brought to all us train geeks!
I went with my dad and some of our friends, and we had a great time.
I can't recommend a visit to our railway museum enough, we are so lucky to have it in York, and it's a free attraction too! Get yourselves down there!
There will be another chance to see the great gathering in October / November so get there early to miss the queues and you will have a brilliant day.
